What’s in the Kit — and Why Each Item Matters

A1551 Large Padded Carry Bag for XC/XD

The MI3136 doesn’t include a carry bag in its standard set, and an instrument costing close to $2,000 deserves proper protection in transit. The A1551 is sized for the MI3136 and its full accessory complement — probes, leads, clips, and adapters all stored together, protected, and organised. Whether it’s going in a van, onto a work site elevator, or into a panel room, a padded bag is not a luxury — it’s practical asset protection.

A1401 Remote Probe for XC/XD

Think of this as the equivalent of a Fluke TP165x for the Metrel system. The A1401 Remote Probe extends your reach into distribution boards, ceiling-mounted outlets, back-of-panel terminals, and tight cabinet spaces where your standard test probes physically won’t fit or can’t be held safely. On any commercial or industrial site with recessed switchgear, this probe earns its place in the first hour on the job.

A1195 Resistor Box

The Resistor Box enables verification of your RCD test results and continuity measurements using a known reference resistance — important for confidence-checking your instrument’s readings when fault-finding produces unexpected results. It’s also relevant for demonstrating traceability when your test reports are scrutinised by a building inspector or compliance auditor.

A1012 Trailing Lead — 4 m Green

While the MI3136’s socket test function works without a trailing lead for standard outlet verification, a 4 m green trailing lead is essential for earthing continuity tests back to a known earth reference — particularly on dead installation testing where the socket circuit isn’t yet energised. It also extends your reach for PE bonding measurements across larger floor areas. Green is the correct colour coding for earth connections under Australian wiring rules.

It functions similarly to the Fluke TP165x and is particularly useful on commercial and industrial installations where testing at panel-mounted connections is part of the scope.

Why does the MI3136 need a trailing lead if it can test sockets without one?

The MI3136’s no-trailing-lead socket test covers outlet verification — earth continuity, polarity, and correct connections at the socket face. A trailing lead (A1012) is still needed for dead installation testing (where circuits aren’t yet energised), earth continuity measurements back to a reference point, and PE bonding verification across longer distances. The 4 m green lead in the kit covers these scenarios.
